Interconnector between Ireland and Britain Opens

Enda kenny officially opened this interconnector yesterday. This connector is around 260km long and has the ability to carry 500 Megawatts of electricity between Ireland and Britain, that is enough energy to power approx 300k homes. A project of this size hasn’t been taken on since Ardnacrusha Hydroelectric power station which was opened in the the late 20’s.

This new development will allow the flow of electricity between both countries. The semi state body Eirgrid was in charge of Delivering the project, said it had come in on time and below its budget (€600m). The semi state company said the connector will help maintain the security of supply and encourage the development of renewable energy sources here.
